To Bill and Beau:
I would like to say I have enjoyed my time in this league and look forward to next year. Even with my wiffle ball experience being 19 yrs. ago, I have played college ball and in softball leagues since those childhood days. This league has definitely been the most fun of the previous two.
Beau and Bill, you have done a great job with everything(league, rules, website, etc.) When my buddy Hank asked me to join a league, I was hesitant. I realize now that saying no would of been a huge mistake. I would have missed out on some great times and great friends. I consider everyone in this league to be a friend. I only wish we could play each team twice to get to know all the players a little better. The play was exciting and filled with a lot of laughs. I would like all the teams to know that I respect them for their kind spirit and the fun atmosphere they provided each week. I look forward to some more fun next season.
Special Thanks:
A special thanks to the Dupont boys for a great summer rivalry. The series was 3-3 going into the final game. These great guys played us 7 times this year and every game was fun and exciting. We got to joke with and challenge them more than any other two teams in the league. They are a great team and deserve to be in the championship game just as much as we do. That crazy last game (2-1 in 11 innings) had 1 unfortunate part. There was a team who had to lose. No one deserved to lose that game. It will probably go down as the closest/best game in the history of the league. I will never be involved in a better game for the rest of my life except for when The University of Michigan finally wins a Championship while I attend (0-2 as of now-Hockey and Basketball).
League Play:
The league play was somewhat one-sided this year, but that should be expected since Washout (20-0) has played together for 7 yrs. Although they lost one (w/o Rish) to Jabronis and the New Guys took them to the wire up 3 going into the 6th (w/o Rish pitching), these two teams showed us that any team in this league can be beat. I believe next year the league will be more competitive and have closer playoff races.
Making a more competitive league:
Even though I feel being good with a scuffed ball doesn't make you a good pitcher, because anyone can be good just by using a scuffed ball. Even though I prefer using a regular ball (ERA-a solid 3.34 in 1st 4 gms versus 4 of 5 best hitting teams) as my bro Hank prefers his yellow bat (1 HR). I have learned to change my ways by using a scuffed ball (ERA-0.00 in last 3 gms) in order to help our team and the league get stronger. Hank has also learned our yellow bat league days are unfortunately over as well if we want to succeed (Locobat and black Louisville Slugger now). Those were 2 of the rules (yellow bat only and no scuffed balls) of our league in the old days. When we joined this league we both vowed not to change our loyalties because the wiffle ball gods would haunt us forever, but we understand times have changed and if others are using them we should too. I encourage everyone to think about this for next year. It will make the league better by having less blowouts.
Till next season........... enjoy the snow!!!!
